It was on the 13th of May that Obra de Vila Romão da Silva opened its doors for the Open House of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
Throughout the day, the work received several visits from people interested in getting to know this project for the reconstruction of the courtyard in Lisbon.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore the work and learn about every detail that makes this project so special. The guided tour allowed a comprehensive view of the interior and exterior spaces, as well as the materials and techniques used in their construction.
The Open House of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale provided a relaxed and welcoming environment, which stimulated the exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge. The presence of visitors was a valuable opportunity for the Work of Vila Romão da Silva, as it allowed more people to get to know the project and understand its importance in the history of the city of Lisbon.
Built in 1889, this villa in Campolide is one of the city's historic courtyards, having served as workers' accommodation since 1870. The ongoing rehabilitation aims to preserve this memory and qualify the life of the community without displacing it, fulfilling the objectives of seismic resistance, accessibility , thermal comfort and environmental sustainability. 25 homes are rehabilitated and five built from scratch, all with affordable rents, and the existence of the independent theater group 'O Palmo e Meio' and the recreational society 'Sport Clube e Amoreiras' are safeguarded.
Urban elements such as the private patio in the interior and the public street, previously disconnected, are part of the spatial continuity solution, which reveals, without intruding, a well-kept secret, opening up possibilities of enjoyment for those who live here.
